We have a few upcoming events we wanted to let you know about that have quickly been created in response to the Gulf Coast oil spill crisis that continues unabated.
JOIN THE LOUISIANA FISHING COMMUNITY IN SENDING A MESSAGE THIS SUNDAY, MAY 16TH IN GRAND ISLE Global Green USA is pleased to be collaborating with aerial artist John Quigley on Sunday, May 16th at Bridge Side beach on Grand Isle, Louisiana to send a global message about the impacts of the Gulf oil spill on families and fishermen. The event starts at 12:30pm on Bridge Side beach (when you go over the last bridge into Grand Isle the beach is immediately in front of you. Parking is slightly towards the right and with access to the berm)
Click here to RSVP & tell us how you can participate. Here is what we are looking for:
- Help recruit people to come down on Sunday and populate the image - click here to forward this email to your friends!
- Come down early on Sunday - 11 AM - and help with the layout of the image
- Take photographs/shoot video of the event on the ground
- Bring
food items that will be distributed to the local shrimping and fishing
community inpacted by the oil spill (ideally staples, snacks, canned and
packaged foods that can last several days and that are healthy and
organic if possible)
During the event, the local community - including shrimpers, fishermen, local business owners, families and concerned citizens - as well as environmental groups, and other participants will be invited to help form a message that will be photographed from the air (like what you see in this email header). The event is a call to action for a full clean up of the spill, restitution for lost jobs and income, and accelerated efforts to move to green energy and green jobs. The event concludes with a community cookout - food will be provided but they are short on rolls and buns - bring some along with drinks and plates - no plastic please!
WATCH LENNY KRAVITZ, MOS DEF & MORE AT GULF AID Also on Sunday, May 16, musicians, business leaders in New Orleans and community radio station WWOZ-FM have come together to create the GULF AID benefit concert to raise funds for wetland recovery efforts, fishermen and their families as oil continues to gush into the Gulf of Mexico from the site of the collapsed deepwater Horizon. The fundraising concert will take place, rain or shine from noon - 10pm at Mardi Gras World River City overlooking the Mississippi River in New Orleans.
Multiplatinum recording artist Lenny Kravitz, will perform as well as Allen Toussaint, Mos Def, Ani DiFranco, The Voice of the Wetlands Allstars (featuring Tab Benoit, Dr. John, Cyril Neville, George Porter Jr., Waylon Thibodeaux, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Johnny Sansone, and Johnny Vidacovich), Zachary Richard, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Soul Rebels Brass Band, Irvin Mayfield's Playhouse Review, Kermit Ruffins and the BBQ Swingers, Jeremy Davenport, Rebirth Brass Band, MyNameIsJohnMichael, with additional artists to be announced.

RAISE MUCH NEEDED FUNDS If you can’t participate in either of these events, we encourage you to do what you can to support the fishing community impacted by the oil spill. This video gives voice to those being effected – please watch and share. Create your own fundraising event in your community, or donate to Global Green directly as we focus on delivering healthy food and support to those immediately in need. If you are in New Orleans, you can also donate food directly to Second Harvest, who are is working to ensure that families along coastal Louisiana whose
livelihood may be impacted by the devastating effects of the explosion
and oil spill will not go hungry. You can find out more here.
Thank you again.
Sincerely,

Beth Galante Director, New Orleans Office
